Glenn Wilson is considered one of the top baritone saxophonists in jazz today. He has recorded 6 solo albums and has appeared on scores of others as a sideman. Glenn has been awarded a grant by the National Endowment for the Arts and his CDs are featured in the Grammaphone Guide to Good Jazz and The Penguin Guide to Jazz. Glenn has also recorded and toured with rock pianist Bruce Hornsby. During his years in New York City (1977-1991), Glenn toured and recorded with Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, Machito, Tito Puente, The Bill Kirchner Nonet, Mel Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and The Bob Belden Ensemble. From 1991-2001, Glenn lived in Richmond, Virginia and he is currently a resident of Central Illinois. He continues to record for Sunnyside and tours regularly with his group, The Jazzmaniacs. Glenn will be joined by the other Jazzmaniacs - Chip Stephens - piano, Jon Wegge - bass and Josh Hunt - drums. Chip is professor of jazz piano at the University of Illinois and has a very busy recording and performing career. His new CD "Holding on to What Counts" has just been released. Jon is a Masters candidate in jazz studies at U of I and Josh is a doctoral student in jazz at U of I. Both have busy playing careers in the Central Illinois area.
