The Illinois Central Jazz Train, directed by Larry Harms, is the newest performing group-in-residence at Illinois Central College. The Illinois Central Jazz Train was formed in August of 2004 and includes some of the finest young and seasoned jazz musicians in Central Illinois. In its short existence, the band has played with David Baker and was part of the CEFCU Summer Jazz Series. They recently had a successful Holiday celebration concert at the Apollo Theatre, where they featured the music of Doug Stone. Doug performed with the ensemble and is a Peoria Jazz All Stars alum, as well as a Northern Illinois University alum, who is now playing sax professionally in the Chicago area and other parts of the country. The ensemble will play selections by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, as well as some original music by David Hoffman.

John Larson (drums), his son Adam (tenor saxophone), Harlan Geiser (lead trombone) and Dale Rideout (lead trumpet) are part of the Bloomington-Normal contingent in the band. Other musicians representing the Peoria area are David Hoffman (trumpet), Toby Thomas (lead alto sax) and Jason Shea (bass trombone). From Springfield are Dick Garretson (trumpet) and Doug Wilcox (trombone), both excellent players and soloists. Two new additions to the ensemble are Nate Heffron (baritone sax) and Jimmy Curless (tenor sax). You'll want to be sure to catch this very talented group..

The Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band will perform during the middle set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a
mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz offerings for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. We are grateful to them for their variety of live jazz offerings. Come out and support them and Live Jazz.
