The Knox Jazz Ensemble will be the guest group for the April Jazz Society program. This award-winning group consists of selected, auditioned members, who tour and perform at collegiate jazz festivals. In addition, they host the annual Knox-Rootabaga Jamm JazzFest. The Knox Jazz Ensemble opened for the headliner concert at the 2006 JazzFest on March 4 at the Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg. The ensemble recently commissioned a work by Frank Mantooth and has recorded four CDs, including "Mr. B Natural" and "No Excuses".

David Hoffman directs the Ensemble. David, who plays trumpet and flugelhorn, is well known as a former member of the Ray Charles Band. The Ensemble will perform traditional big band pieces by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton. They may also do some by Charles Mingus and more modern big band tunes. There will also be a few original songs written by David Hoffman. You won't want to miss this program.

The Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band will perform during the middle set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a
mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz offerings for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. We are grateful to them for their variety of live jazz offerings. Come out and support them and Live Jazz.
