The Stephen Anderson Trio will make their first appearance at the Jazz Society. Stephen, a composer and pianist, leads the trio. Joining Stephen are Toby Curtright on bass and Jay Ferguson on drums.
Stephen has been commissioned and/or performed with the Barlow Foundation, the Dallas Chamber Symphony, and other groups. He is a winner of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival piano competition, outstanding music student of his graduating class for the BYU College of Music and many other awards. Toby was previously a teacher in East Peoria, as well as at Western Illinois University and Bradley University. He is completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies and teaching bass at the University of Illinois. Toby has had the privilege of sharing the stage and studio with Cecil Bridgewater, The Four Freshmen and other great musicians. Jay has received Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Illinois. He has accompanied guest artists, including Rick Margitza, Tim Hagans and Maria Schneider. He is an active freelance musician throughout Illinois.The Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band will perform during the middle set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz offerings for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. We are grateful to them for their variety of live jazz offerings. Come out and support them.
