The ISU (Illinois State University) Faculty Jazz Ensemble will be the guest group for the May Jazz Society program. The Ensemble members are Jim Boitos on saxophone, Charles Stokes on piano, Bill Koehler on bass and Tom Marko on drums. All are members of the ISU faculty. Jim is professor of saxophone. Charles is music theory coordinator. Bill is professor of double bass. Tom is director of instrumental jazz studies.
The Ensemble will play a combination of jazz standards as well as a number of original compositions by members of the group. The Ensemble has been together for four years. They play at least one concert per semester on the ISU campus in the Center for Performing Arts, as well as other events, including the summer jazz concert on the quad. The ISU Faculty Jazz Ensemble is a very talented group that you will not want to miss.The Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band will perform during the middle set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz offerings for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. We are grateful to them for their variety of live jazz offerings. Come out and support them.
